The 78th Emmy Awards will air Monday, September 14, at 8:00 PM ET / 5:00 PM PT on NBC (and streamed on Peacock). Emmy-winning Law & Order: Special Victims Unit star Mariska Hargitay will host the three-hour ceremony from the Peacock Theater at L.A. LIVE in Los Angeles.

This year’s nominations mix Emmy favorites with an unusually large collection of new programs and first-time nominees. There are also 28 first-time performer nominees this year.

The Pitt leads all programs with 25 nominations, while Hacks has 24, setting a new record for the most nominations received by a comedy in a single year. Beef leads the Limited/Anthology field with 16 nominations; Saturday Night Live leads Variety with 11; and RuPaul’s Drag Race leads Nonfiction/Reality programs with nine.

Among the performers competing are Noah Wyle, Gary Oldman, Sterling K. Brown, Jean Smart, Harrison Ford, Zendaya, Keri Russell, Michelle Pfeiffer, Sally Field, Lisa Kudrow, Steve Carell, Oscar Isaac, Sarah Snook, Ayo Edebiri, Quinta Brunson, Martin Short and Rhea Seehorn.

 

THE OTHER EMMYS

The September 14 NBC/Peacock telecast will present 19 competitive categories. But most of the Emmys are actually presented earlier during the Creative Arts Emmy Awards on Saturday, September 5 and Sunday, September 6.

Several categories viewers might expect to be part of the main broadcast, will instead be part of the Creative Arts ceremonies, including Supporting Actor and Supporting Actress in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie, Directing for a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie, Writing for a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie, and Writing for a Variety Series.

The Creative Arts ceremonies also encompass guest acting, animation, television movies, cinematography, editing, casting, costumes, makeup, music, sound, visual effects, stunts and many other production and craft awards.
